This winter transfer window is always a time of feverish rumour and potential major moves. A number of high-profile footballers find themselves connected to transfers away from their present teams. We examine some of the major figures that could be changing clubs this month.

This experienced German shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under new coach Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and undergone surgery, a winter departure seems highly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that option now appears off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of making the national World Cup. K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely expected to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal valued at approximately £22 million.
